My wife fell in love with waffles on a trip to Belgium in 2015. She loved them enough that she came home and started a waffle business out of our kitchen, which we named Waffle Queen. I remember pouring cups of sugar into the mixing bowl with dairy, then mixing it all with more sugar called flour.
Things changed when our kids started eating solid food. We found ourselves reluctant to give them waffles, and for my wife it was inconceivable to sell something we wouldn't regularly or eagerly feed our own children. Waffle Queen sold her last waffle in 2023.
A couple of years later we were frustrated with the lack of good food options for kids. The only quick snack for our kids was another short-eats shop selling nothing unprocessed or without sugar. The only grab-and-go option in a grocery store was a pack of crisps and a sugary drink. We needed healthy options that were both convenient and affordable. If the market wasn't going to deliver them, we would have to make it ourselves.
Thus turned Waffle Queen into Keto Queen. Now Keto Queen is dedicated to developing healthier alternatives to the everyday foods that are harming us, and our children. Our goal is to improve both lifespan and healthspan of all Sri Lankans, and give our children a better shot at their full potential.
Our first range is nut milks: single-serve almond and cashew milk drinks as plain, chocolate, iced coffee and cinnamon latte. Dairy-free options here have been limited and expensive, and we wanted to change that.
Our newer range is fruit juices with the pulp kept in to retain the fibre, the closest thing to eating the whole fruit. Instead of sugar, they're sweetened with sucralose and organic coconut sugar, and mixed with coconut water. Available in Pineapple, Sweet Orange, Passion Fruit and my personal favourite, Mango.
We have a pipeline of other products in development so watch this space. And if you love our products, please tell others about it!
